LaPorte County Complex - Meeting Room 2

We live in a digital age where kids spend a lot of time online using social media, researching, shopping and more. While technology can be a powerful aspect in education, healthcare and communication, internet crimes against children and online bullying are increasing concerns.

Children are being targeted by online predators at an alarming rate. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, over 27 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation have been made to the CyberTipline between 1998 and 2017.

This lunch presentation and discussion will help attendees understand:

  • the potential criminal charges that can arise from sexting and other promiscuous online activity;
  • how predators use popular applications to target and groom children, causing them to fall victim to online sexual exploitation; and
  • how privacy is actually very limited online and how your personal information can be vulnerable.

Speaker: Kristen Wozniak, Internet Crimes Against Children Unit Administrator, LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office
