Among Hoosier youth, 51.5% of middle school tobacco users and 62.4% of high school tobacco users use a flavored tobacco product. In both Knox and Daviess County, flavored mini cigars, flavored cigarillos, smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes, and premium cigars are available. Data shows that 89% of retailers in Knox County and 92% of retailers in Daviess County sell flavored tobacco products.

Join us for this free lunch event to learn about marketing tactics used by the tobacco industry to target and entice youth to use tobacco products, including inexpensive, flavored tobacco products. This presentation will explore point-of-sale tobacco marketing seen in Knox and Daviess Counties compared to 34 other counties throughout the state of Indiana.

Attendees will:

  • understand price promotions and how they impact a young person’s decision to use a tobacco product;
  • hear about tobacco industry marketing strategies and about tobacco marketing in the local community; and
  • understand how tobacco marketing affects the youth of our community.
