Among Hoosier youth, 51.5% of middle school tobacco users and 62.4% of high school tobacco users use a flavored tobacco product. In both Knox and Daviess County, flavored mini cigars, flavored cigarillos, smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes, and premium cigars are available. Data shows that 89% of retailers in Knox County and 92% of retailers in Daviess County sell flavored tobacco products.
Join us for this free lunch event to learn about marketing tactics used by the tobacco industry to target and entice youth to use tobacco products, including inexpensive, flavored tobacco products. This presentation will explore point-of-sale tobacco marketing seen in Knox and Daviess Counties compared to 34 other counties throughout the state of Indiana.
Speaker: Krystle Russell, Hoosier Uplands, TPC Program Coordinator, Knox County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition
Krystle Russell has Master’s Degree in criminal justice from Saint Joseph’s University. In her current role, Krystle has conducted numerous store audits using the STARS assessment tool to see what marketing happens with tobacco products at the point of sale in the local community.
