The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion holds a mission-critical role of ensuring that the work of diversity, equity and inclusion are, and remain, essential to all aspects of Indiana Youth Institute’s efforts. This role is responsible for managing the staff development strategy around issues of equity and bias, consulting internally on major initiatives, and mobilizing individuals and organizations along our DEI journey. This person will serve as a trusted advisor to leaders in the organization.
The Director will be responsible for partnering with the President and CEO and Chief of Staff to develop and implement a multi-year strategy to further Indiana Youth Institute’s efforts to become an anti-racist, equitable organization. This will include evaluating internal systems, policies, and practices; reviewing data; and developing accountability measures to ensure organizational DEI work is advancing more equitable outcomes for Indiana youth.
Our Director must demonstrate a longstanding commitment to equity with the willingness/ability to recognize, support, and engage in IYI’s work using an equity lens. They must have respect for diverse opinions, be highly collaborative and able to engage colleagues across disciplines. The Director must be able to manage cross-functional projects such as working with internal stakeholders to integrate DEI throughout all IYI programs, initiatives, practices and policies. The successful individual will possess a confident humility with a growth mindset orientation.
They will champion a diverse workforce by collaborating with the Chief of Staff to examine hiring, talent management, and human resources administration systems and policies to ensure equity; and provide consultation on various external- and internal-facing communications. Additionally, the director will plan and lead formal and informal professional development throughout the year to address ongoing and ad- hoc organizational needs around DEI issues. This position will support and manage IYI’s DEI Committee.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in DEI work (or closely related experience), ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments, effective, versatile and action-oriented, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Youth services and/or education sector experience preferred, ideally at least three years demonstrated commitment to serving communities or stakeholder groups that are marginalized. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
This position reports to the President and Chief Executive Officer through the Chief of Staff.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time, exempt position with a strong benefits package. Salary is competitive and commensurate with level of experience.
