Indiana children of color have a poverty rate (40.0%) twice the state level (18.6%). Poverty is one of the primary contributors to family stress, which is more prevalent among families of color in Indiana. Stress negatively impacts children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development which has long-term physical and mental health effects.

• develop social support skills as a protective factor;
• use peer supports to build and model social support skills in high-stress communities
