The grief journey for families and young people is more challenging than for older adults. Young people navigate grief differently and have manifestations of grief that range from anger to withdrawal, sadness and acting out. There is a real need for people working with youth to be aware of the many ways that grief can and will be expressed and to have concrete ways to deal with these signs. Grief that is smothered or ignored does real long lasting harm that will eventually manifest later in life as a range of emotional and behavioral issues.
