Power Talk 21 A Parent Teen Conference on Underage Drinking Prevention

One of MADD’s mission prongs is the prevention of underage drinking. To help parents have the ongoing conversation with their children about the dangers of underage drinking MADD developed the Power of Parents program, and to help teens learn how to stand up against underage drinking MADD created the Power of Youth program. This unique conference will deliver both our Power of Parents and Power of Youth programs to teens and their parents. In addition to MADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions and the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking will present to parents and youth.

Power Talk 21 Agenda

• 10:00 A.M – Meet and Greet, visit booths and resource tables

• 10:30 A.M – Students attend Power of Youth program 
                    - Parents attend Power of Parents programs

• 12:00 P.M - Lunch provided by IU West  

• 01:00 P.M – Students attend presentation by Students Against Dangerous Decisions (SADD)
                      Parents attend presentation on social host law

• 02:00 PM – Parents and students attend expert panel discussion. Attendees can ask experts questions about underage drinking, the consequences of the behavior for both parents and students. Expert panel will include, a police officer, a prosecutor, MADD, SADD, Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking, and a pediatrician from IU West

• 03:00 PM – Students will receive pledge cards, pledging to withstand from alcohol until the legal drinking age of 21 and to NEVER get into a vehicle with someone who has been drinking or doing drugs
