Institute for Strategic Funding Development
Two - Day Strategic Grant Development Workshop (Sponsored by ISFD)
To be held at: Indiana State University. Terre Haute, Indiana

The strategic grant writing development workshop is designed to teach the basics of grant writing for industry professionals. It provides a comprehensive overview of effective grant development techniques, including: finding best fit funding sources, creating innovative programs, and planning for funding sustainability.
Attendees of the Strategic Grant Writing Development will learn the following:

Strategic Grant Research - Through interactive exercises, discussions, applicable research assignments and individual consultations, you will learn how to strategically identify appropriate funding agencies. This course will expose you to database applications, online research tools, as well as traditional publications that contain information about multiple grant opportunities.

Strategic Program Planning - Planning a winning proposal requires developing ideas that are clear, significant and compelling. Your ideas must not only meet the criteria of a grant maker, but they must also demonstrate your in-depth knowledge about a grant maker. Effectively strategizing your proposal idea is what this workshop will emphasize.

Strategic Proposal Writing - Preparing a successful written proposal requires an organized, systematic approach to effectively convey your story. It demands disciplined strategies to align your content to what a grant maker is looking for. This workshop provides a step-by-step writing process to deal with any and all application requirements.
Strategic Proposal Submittal Process - Tip and strategies to ensure that you follow the proper protocol and best practices on grant proposal submittals. Learn the best tips and tricks to increase your chances of getting your grant successfully approved

Tuition for our Two-day grant writing workshop is $498 per person, with a $25 off discount for early sign-ups (10 business days or more before the workshop). Each participant will receive the following:

* ISFD Certificate of Completion accredited by CFRE with 15 Continuation Education Units (CEU) or 15 Contact Hours

QPR Gatekeeper Instructor Certification Course
Deaconess Hospital, Johnson Hall, Evansville, Indiana 
QPR is an evidence based suicide prevention program.  In as little as one-hour individuals can learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to apply three simple steps that may save a life. Presented by a certified instructor, each QPR training includes information on:

  • The problem of suicide nationally and in Indiana
  • Common myths and facts associated with suicide
  • Warning signs of suicide
  • Tips for asking the suicide question
  • Methods for persuading suicidal individuals to get help
  • Ways of referring at risk people to local resources
  • Time for Questions and Answers

Each attendee will receive a QPR booklet and card with information on suicide prevention, as well as resource information for treatment providers and support groups within their community
Cost:  $495.00—includes all training materials.  QPR booklets will be provided to all trainers.

Children’s Literature Workshops for Early Childhood Educators

Workshops are FREE

Each workshop will be led by an experienced juvenile librarian and will include the following:
• Tour of the dynamic 18,000 square foot Learning Curve, winner of the Library of the Future Award.
• Learn how to identify high quality books and select materials that are developmentally appropriate for each age group. Receive an introduction to the most recent and best books for young children that can be used in any childcare or preschool setting.
• Experience Digital Littles, a hands-on technology storytime activity for preschool children. Discover ways that you can implement technology into your classroom.
• Explore the vast collection of materials available for any theme, topic, or skill you might want to include in your curriculum, all with the guidance of an experienced professional.

Living In the New Normal: Helping Children Thrive In Good and Challenging Times Practicum

Presented by The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC)™, a nonprofit organization addressing the educational needs of children in military families. This training is designed for Family Readiness Group leaders, first responders and other concerned adults to gain strategies and practical applications to increase resilience in military-connected children.

The LINN Practicum has the following outcomes:

1. To acquire a basic knowledge of the elements of resilience and its application to military-connected children.

2. To identify and apply resilience-building skills to prepare children for good and challenging times.

3. To identify tools and resources to foster resilience in children.

Child and Youth Care Certification Board (CYCCB) exam

the first step in achieving CYC-P professional certification, will be proctored by Pam Clark at Ivy Tech Community College, 50 West Fall Creek Parkway North Drive, Indianapolis in Room T229 in the Technology Center (see link below to a map of the Ivy Tech campus). 

The national awards professional certification (CYC-P) to individuals that demonstrate advanced education, training, and skills in the field of child and youth work.  Certification is a means for practitioners and child-serving organizations to demonstrate their commitment to professional and high standards of practice.

The cost for taking the exam is $75 and is to be paid by check at the testing site prior to testing (this fee will be increasing to $135).  Checks should be made payable to “CYCCB”.

If you are a seasoned child and youth work practitioner, please consider obtaining professional level certification that demonstrates to others your education and your years of experience and professional development in our profession.

Mental Health First Aid Training
Deaconess Hospital Main Campus, Health Science Building, Johnson Hall, Evansville, Indiana

The Mental Health First Aid program is an interactive session which runs 12 hours over 2 days.  Mental Health First Aid certification must be renewed every three years, and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments. Specifically, participants learn:

  • The potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health problems, including: depression, anxiety/trauma, psychosis and psychotic disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and self-injury
  • An understanding of the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need for reduced stigma in our communities
  • A 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to assess the situation, to select and implement appropriate interventions, and to help the individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional care 
  • The appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.

Cost:       There is no cost for this 2-day training.  The cost of lunch and materials is covered by the community benefit efforts of Deaconess Cross Pointe and the Deaconess Health System.
