Glenn Augustine, Vice-President - Communications

Glenn is responsible for producing the Kids Count statewide radio program and day-to-day marketing and communications for IYI and its programs.

Prior to joining IYI in December 2006, Glenn served for five years as the senior director of university communications at Ball State University and spent 13 years in television news. He won several awards for his reporting during stops in St. Louis, Terre Haute, Indiana, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Indianapolis.

Glenn is a 1988 graduate of Indiana University with a degree in journalism. Glenn and his wife, Stacey, live in Indianapolis with their four children. In his spare time, Glenn loves to spend time with his family, travel, play golf, read, and root for his favorite sports teams—the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Indiana University men’s basketball and football.

Marilyn Bean, Project Manager - Statewide Outreach

On staff with IYI since June 2007, Marilyn serves in the area of Statewide Outreach. She provides administrative support for the VP of Statewide Outreach as well as the five regional staff representatives. She also assists with two monetary grant programs, the Compassion Capital Fund and the Responsible Fatherhood program.

Marilyn graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, with a BA in French/Secondary Education. Prior to her employment with IYI, Marilyn worked for eight years as office manager for her husband’s graphic design business and six years as an administrative assistant for churches in Indianapolis and the Philadelphia area. Their son Stefan is a graphic designer and their daughter Erin attends Indiana Wesleyan University.

Nicole Brock, Program Associate

Nicole Brock came to IYI in July 2006. As the program associate, she manages a diverse set of responsibilities including, supporting the program department, processing training registrations and Professional Development Grant applications, and assisting with library requests. Nicole is a recent AmeriCorps alumnus, with experience in direct youth service, as well as behind-the-scenes nonprofit management. Most recently, she served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA at College Mentors for Kids, Inc., in Indianapolis, coordinating special events and streamlining volunteer engagement efforts. She also spent a year as a team leader with City Year San Antonio, tutoring children and running after-school programs in two elementary schools.

An Iowa native, Nicole earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish from Coe College. In her spare time, she continues to volunteer with College Mentors for Kids, and enjoys Indy’s cultural scene as a volunteer usher with the Wellington Theatre Arts Group and an event manager with the Indianapolis Civic Theatre.

Gabrielle Campo, Project Manager - Data

Gabrielle Campo joined IYI in January 2006. As Project Administrator, she is responsible for data requests, Issue Alerts, the Kids Count in Indiana data book, Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping and providing information on current youth research. Gabrielle brings to IYI an array of experiences, ranging from teaching in Jiangmen, China and Immokalee, Florida, case-management at the Illinois Department of Children and Families, research work with Loyola of Chicago’s Policy Research and Action group, to coordinating immunization clinics through Visiting Nurses, Inc.

She completed her master degree at Indiana University School of Social work and her bachelor degree at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame. Gabrielle is passionate about life and is driven by a mission to help youth in Indianapolis and around the globe.

Elizabeth Crist Darby, Project Manager - Conferences and Trainings

Elizabeth Crist Darby joined IYI in December of 2006. She manages the Kids Count in Indiana Conference and other training services, oversees event planning for audio conferences, and administers the Indiana Youth Investment Awards and the Family Friendly Business Awards programs.

Before joining IYI, Elizabeth worked for the state government, most recently analyzing policies and procedures that affect front-line child protection workers. Prior to that, she ran the annual Governor’s Conference on Aging and supervised the work of county-based Step Ahead Councils. Elizabeth relocated to Indianapolis in 2002, where she now resides with her husband, Andrew. Prior to moving to Indiana, Elizabeth lived and worked in Janesville, Wisconsin, where she directed an employment retention program. She has a broad range of social services experience including program development, marketing and communications, legislation and policy analysis, and strategic planning. Elizabeth earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Knox College and is a former Congressional Intern. Elizabeth is also a member of the National Afterschool Association.

Dianne Elliott , Manager of Fund Development

Dianne is responsible for grantwriting and other fundraising activities to help support IYI’s free and low cost programs.
She is a development professional who has 20 years of experience and a proven track record of working with nonprofit organizations. Elliott came to the Indiana Youth Institute after working for the Norfolk Collegiate School, the Downtown Norfolk Council, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Among her duties for those organizations were the development and execution of revenue generating programs and events, performing many public relations and marketing tasks, managing the alumni annual fund program, writing grants and communication responsibilities.

A graduate of Indiana University, she majored in management/policy administration and minored in business and economics. Dianne and her husband, Kevin, a commercial photographer, and their son, Jake, returned to her home state of Indiana after residing in Norfolk, VA for 16 years. 

Marta Fetterman, Project Manager - Consulting

Marta joined the IYI staff in April 2004. She is responsible for managing the Tech Wizards and Youth Service Briefcase programs, the Assessment Team, and the Youth Service Help Desk. Marta joined IYI after a 14-year career with the YMCA where she served in both Indianapolis and Michigan. She has extensive training experience and expertise in youth-related programs and development. Because of her program management and evaluation background, Marta is very receptive to the needs of youth-serving organizations.

Marta is a graduate of Anderson University with a BA in Business Management and Marketing. She spends her time supporting various school and church groups, cooking, and reading. She resides in Brownsburg with her husband Jim and son Zach. Daughter Brittany is attending college.

Nancy Flanigan, Customer Service/ Webmaster

Nancy Flanigan joined IYI in January of 2006 in the position of Customer Service/ Webmaster. Nancy provides customer service, manages the updates for the IYI web site, and also does a variety of office administrative duties. She also supports the Director of Statewide Outreach and the Field Staff Representatives, and the Director of Business and Information Systems.

In a galaxy far away, Nancy was a sculptor of original production and prototype models for major toy manufacturers and collectible companies. After obtaining a BFA from the University of Cincinnati, she joined the sculpting staff of Kenner Toys, and later, continued sculpting on a freelance basis.

Switching careers, Nancy completed her Associate Degree in Multimedia Design from Ivy Tech Sate College in Indianapolis in 2001. Since then, she has been building her design skills as a freelance web site designer and her administrative skills in part-time positions as an executive assistant. Nancy lives in Indianapolis with her two dogs Boss (the good one) and Eddie (the bad one). She enjoys scuba diving whenever she gets the chance!

Karen Glaser,  Vice-President- Programs

As VP of Programs, Karen is responsible for overseeing many of the services and products that IYI provides for its youth-serving clients. Those range from data resources to trainings to consulting services. She joined IYI in December of 2007 with a variety of experience in the private, non-profit and public sector and a history of serving Indiana children. Most recently, she worked for the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) as chief of staff. At DCS, she helped to implement case practice reform for child welfare.

A life long Hoosier, Karen earned a nursing degree from Purdue University and a business degree from IUPUI. She lives in Carmel with her husband and has two sons

Juanita Mejia-Goodwell, Northeastern Indiana Field Staff

Juanita joined IYI in February of 2002 and is the organization's field representative in northeastern Indiana. Previously, she spent nine years with the Twenty-First Century Scholars Program in Fort Wayne where she coordinated that region's site. Prior to that she worked as an administrator with such Fort Wayne youth agencies as the YWCA and Whitington Homes, Inc. As IYI's northern Indiana field representative, Juanita's primary role is to build relationships with IYI's current and potential constituents, civic leaders, and government officials in the northern third of our state.

Juanita completed her bachelor degree in criminal justice from Indiana University Purdue University in Fort Wayne. She resides in Fort Wayne with her husband David Goodwell and two step-sons Justice and Dion.

Lisa Habegger, Director - Library Services

Lisa, who joined the IYI staff in August 2004, is responsible for managing the Virginia Beall Ball Library. Prior to joining IYI, Lisa was an Adult Services Librarian at Brownsburg Public Library, where she was in charge of the library's teen council, helped to develop the young adult and adult collections, and organized programs for all ages. While living in Colorado, Lisa worked as a patron services and catalog librarian for Jefferson County Public Libraries, as a managing director for a nonprofit arts organization, and as a gallery director.

Lisa is a graduate of Indiana University with a BA in Fine Arts, and she holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Colorado. In 2003, she received her Master of Library Science degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis. In her spare time, she creates paintings and drawings, and has exhibited her artwork locally and in Colorado. She resides on the west side of Indianapolis with her husband Dean (also an artist), their daughters, Annabella and Bethany, and the family dog, Bernie.

Linda Henderson, Southeastern Indiana Field Staff

Linda joined IYI in February of 2002 and is the organization's Field Representative in southern Indiana. Formerly a consultant for 4H's Community Systemwide Response Initiative (CSR), her career also includes experience with the Indiana Prevention Resource Center and several years of working with developmentally disabled adults. Linda served in the Indiana House of Representatives in 1992-1994 and brings her wide knowledge of government to the position at IYI.

As IYI's Southeastern Indiana Field Representative, Linda's primary role is to build relationships with IYI's current and potential constituents, civic leaders, and government officials in the southern third of our state. Currently, Linda is an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech, Bloomington. In addition, she is a board member of the Indiana Association of Prevention Professionals.

Linda received her bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Speech Communication in 1982, and a master's degree in 1985 in Speech Communication from Indiana University, Bloomington. Linda is originally from southern Indiana and currently lives in Bedford. In March 2006, Linda was awarded the Lawrence County's Walk with Excellence Government of Public Service Award.

Sue Honcharuk, Project Director - Jobs for America's Graduates

Sue coordinates the implementation of Jobs for America’s Graduates for the state of Indiana. The Department of Workforce Development has collaborated with IYI to bring this highly successful program to high school students all over Indiana. Jobs for America’s Graduates is a dropout prevention program targeting Juniors and Seniors while providing the attainment of employability skills. This program was recently rated one of the top six national youth development programs. For more information about JAG Indiana, contact Sue at IYI.

Sue is a graduate of the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada with a BS in Social Science, Anthropology. Sue spent five years in Canada, working in Detroit for Touche-Ross. Sue joins us after spending 12 years in Ohio as a public school teacher who initiated many programs for at-risk students. Sue lives in Indianapolis with two of her four boys, the other two attend the University of Cincinnati.

Ed Hoy, Vice-President - Business and Information Systems

Ed joined IYI in November, 1997 as Director of Information Systems. He assumed responsibility for IYI's business operations in February, 1999. Ed has a strong background in integrating information systems into business operations. He has leveraged technology investments to streamline IYI's business processes and increase the accessibility of IYI's products and services. Ed also serves as a technical advisor to the National Youth Development Information Center's web-based information clearinghouse.

Previously, Ed worked for the Indiana Department of Commerce as Deputy Director for Energy Policy. He was responsible for program operations, outsourcing program evaluation services, and grants management. Ed designed and implemented the Industrial Energy Efficiency Fund, a loan program for businesses investing in cutting edge manufacturing technologies. He served as a member of the Energy Information Administration Advisory Council and the U.S. Department of Energy Program Evaluation Task Force. Ed also received special recognition from the Secretary of Energy for his work with the Office of Energy Emergencies.

A lifelong resident of Indiana, Ed attended Indiana University. He resides in Greenwood with his wife Lee Ann, and daughters Elyse, and Emily.

Cynthia Ille, Senior Accountant

Cynthia joined IYI in March of 2007. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with an accounting degree from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. During her 14 years working in the nonprofit sector, Cynthia has provided full accounting services to various organizations receiving federal, state, and local grants.

Kelli Jones, Fund Development and Marketing Intern

Kelli is an Indianapolis native and began working at IYI in May 2007. She assists the fund development and marketing department with a variety of activities including writing and editing grant proposals, assisting with the Annual Fund, tracking marketing activity, staffing exhibits and conferences to market IYI’s services and coordinating exhibitors and doorprizes for the annual Kids Count in Indiana Conference. Kelli graduated magna cum laude from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. She is currently a 4th year part-time law student at Indiana University-Indianapolis School of Law and will be graduating with her law degree in May 2008.

Prior to joining IYI, Kelli worked for Kid’s Voice of Indiana, was a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, and a mentor for the Stacey Toran Foundation.

Upon receipt of her J.D., Kelli will continue working in the nonprofit sector in Fund Development, Marketing, and Event and Program Planning.

Karin Mills, CFRE, Vice-President - Fund Development and Marketing

Karin joined IYI in April 1999, bringing the agency strong fund raising, marketing, and public relations skills and a background in the corporate and nonprofit arenas. She was formerly Director of Development & Public Relations at Girls Incorporated of Indianapolis. In her two years there, she increased revenues substantially from corporate, foundation and government grants, special events, direct mail, and major gifts. Her experience with this Indiana youth service organization provides a practical perspective that will help IYI become more responsive to the needs of youth-serving nonprofits.

A graduate of Northwestern University, Karin began her career in public relations, working for major national advertising agencies in New York City and eventually becoming Director of Public Relations for Seventeen Magazine. Since then, she has provided marketing, fund raising, and executive leadership for a variety of nonprofit organizations serving education, children, health care, and the arts. In her position at IYI, Karin is a member of the institute's senior leadership team, and is responsible for fund development and marketing for the agency.

Linda Plummer, Bookkeeper

Linda joined the Indiana Youth Institute in 1987. In her role as bookkeeper she maintains the organization's day-to-day business operations, which includes accounts payable and accounts receivable. Linda's customer-service approach, record keeping and strong organizational skills do much to support the statewide efforts of the program staff at IYI.

Dan Schwieder, Program Intern

Dan joins us from Indiana University where he is finishing up his Master of Science degree in Health Promotion. Additionally, Dan is a graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Leadership with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. He is currently a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Before pursuing a Masters degree, Dan worked as a recreation therapist in Colorado Springs helping to implement various programs for both youth and adults with disabilities. He is originally from Idaho and now lives in Bloomington, Indiana with his wife Rachele.

Joe Shrode, Southwest Indiana Field Representative

Before joining IYI, Joe worked for the Evansville Youth Service Bureau as Director of After School Programs for an eight-county area. Prior to that, he worked for Youth First, Inc., an Evansville-based youth substance abuse prevention agency. He has directed and facilitated a variety of programs designed to build life skills and provide positive adult role models and safe haven for youth. Joe is active in many agencies and coalitions in southwest Indiana.

Joe spent nearly 20 years in marketing communications before entering the youth serving field. While in this role he learned the importance of assessing needs and objectives, providing appropriate services, outcome evaluation, networking, public relations, and many other services that are vital to non-profit agencies as well.

Joe's objective is to support youth-serving non-profit agencies by bringing awareness of IYI's services to southwest Indiana. Joe lives in Evansville with his wife, Cathy, who is a special education teacher and their son, Sam.

Jaime Theresa Smith, Project Manager - Business & Information Technology

Joining IYI in the summer of 2001 as a TechWizard intern, Jaime stepped in for nearly a year as IYI's Business Associate in addition to her technology projects. She is now IYI's full-time Business Administrator and is responsible for maintaining efficient and effective vendor relations, assisting the Director of Business and MIS in facilities' operations/office management, and human resources, while still providing break/fix support on workstations in a network environment.

In May of 2002, Jaime graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Indianapolis with a major in Theatre and a minor in Information Systems. In her spare time, Jaime likes to travel and performs in local theatre, and portrayed Lady Montague in Rough Magic's production of Romeo and Juliet. She also recently worked behind the scenes as Assistant Director, Assistant Stage Manager, and Props Master for Buck Creek Theatre' production of How I Learned to Drive.

Bill Stanczykiewicz, President & CEO

A unique blend of public policy and communications experience has led Bill Stanczykiewicz to a position of statewide leadership and recognition as a "Distinguished Hoosier" from Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon.

Bill came to IYI from a cabinet position in the administration of Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. Bill moved into Mayor Goldsmith's administration after serving as a policy advisor in the Washington, D.C., office of U.S. Senator Dan Coats of Indiana. Bill served the Senator's chairmanship of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Children and Families.

After a 15-year career in public policy and the media, Bill Stanczykiewicz became Executive Director of the Indiana Youth Institute in November of 1998. Since joining IYI, Bill has worked diligently to put IYI into the forefront of youth development and child advocacy across the state of Indiana. He was also awarded a fellowship with the Rockefeller Foundation's Next Generation Leadership program, the mission of which is to create a diverse inter-sectoral network of leaders, develop problem-solving models, and identify solutions to the social, economic and technological disparities which threaten democracy.

Bill is frequently invited to speak on youth issues by state and national organizations. Previous engagements include: the 2005 Indiana Black Expo Festival to unveil a new report, “State of Our Black Youth”; the National Youth Summit in Washington, DC; and various Youth Summits across the state including the Child Abuse and Neglect Summit in Lafayette and the Youth Education Summit in Fort Wayne.

Currently, Bill is honored to serve on Indiana’s Education Roundtable, which works to improve education for all Hoosier students by focusing on critical issues and plans for improvement. On behalf of IYI, he is a member of the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant Advisory Council and the NCAA Youth Outreach Committee. Bill is also a member of the Indiana State Workforce Innovation Council.

Bill earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Bill resides in Zionsville with his wife and four children.

Dennis Tooley, Central Indiana Field Staff

Dennis joined the staff of IYI in November 1999, after spending 11 years working with The Salvation Army, most recently as commanding officer of the Fountain Square Corps in Indianapolis. He brings a variety of experiences he hopes will be helpful in our outreach to faith-based organizations. He has spent a number of years working directly with children and youth from the inner-city of Chicago to the rural setting of Boone, Iowa to the beachside city of Savannah, Georgia.

Dennis studied Theater Arts and Youth Ministries at Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, Tennessee, and Practical Ministries at Olivette Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois. He views his education as important but feels that his genuine concern for children and youth is what makes his training and experience mean something. Dennis has a passion for equipping others with the tools to impact the youth of Indiana in a positive way. He views his role as a great opportunity to practice "Servant Leadership."

Dennis and his wife Mary are the proud parents of son Jake.
